From Our Blog

  • Imagine that you get home on a sweltering afternoon in the hope of getting back to the comfort of your room only to find that the AC doesn't turn on? The age of ceiling fan is long past as no one uses them anymore. Hence, AC becomes your only saviour on a hot summer, and you wouldn't want yourself to drown in perspiration, especially when the summer can be so unforgiving. Make sure to give enough attention to your AC, lest that it gets ignored and no maintenance checks performed. Some tasks are something an average Joe can do, while others would require proper licensure. Skim through the below to-do's to keep your AC from going defunct.

    Cleanse or Replace Air Filter:

If it's a reusable filter, clean it, & if it's not, replace it. There are a few places where you could disclose the filter's unapparent location. It could be found behind the air grille opposing a wall, or inside the blower section of the air handler, or just as a slot on the side or the bottom. It is important to clean because dust might clog the vents, reducing air flow.

    Inspect Wires & Other Components:

Keep in mind to disconnect the AC from the power. Then get into the access panel and check if there are signs of overheating, like melted insulation or blackened wires. Ensure that the connections are held tight. Check for any burnt capacitors on the PCB.

    Check Thermostat:

If the AC is integrated with a traditional mechanical type thermostat, then upgrading to a programmable one would help heave your troubles away. Benefits of a programmable one include automatic turning up of the degrees when no one's home and cool the home 30 minutes prior to people arriving at the home.

    Examine Condenser Unit Fan:

Switch off the Air condenser unit & check the condenser fan that's mounted on top of the condenser unit & make sure that the fan doesn't show any signs of oxidation or corrosion. If it does, replace the fan to save power from the extra power it'd be sucking, & making it more efficient. And if it's an older AC unit you're tending to, then ensure that the screws and bolts are well-oiled and no creaks can be heard.

    Outdoor ACs:

If your AC outlet unit is outdoors, you may think it worthy of taking a look at it as there are many factors that may leave the unit vulnerable. Get rid of any protruding bushes or bramble that might hinder any mechanics of the unit. Clean any leaves that might have got engulfed into the unit. Secure the unit from the elements. Get hold of a garden hose to gently wash off the debris on the top of the unit, being careful enough not to impinge water into the innards of the unit, lest that be the reason you have to change the whole unit.
